But until then, I present to you Slugger+. I’m using the “+” because this is actually a simple modification of a great plugin called Slugger by Colin Devroe, which allows you to define a slug from within your post’s content (Update: Colin has given Slugger+ his seal of approval. If that doesn’t make sense, be sure to check out Colin’s wonderful screencast of the plugin in action. Comment on Simple Countdown by A long overdue revamp of my site | Colin Devroe http://chancecube.com/products/simple-countdown/#comment-12087 Tue, 06 Feb 2007 17:14:47 +0000 http://chancecube.com/products/simple-countdown/#comment-12087 [...] Obviously I’m using ChanceCube’s Slugger plugin to help me never to see WordPress’ administrative area as well as HappyPals to take advantage of my XFN relationships in my links. I also have Mike Stickel’s Simple Countdown plugin installed and activated, but you’ll have to wait till the weekend to see why. These three plugins have become indispensable for me in how I publish, Slugger the greatest of these. I could never stand using WordPress’ admin (or any administrative area that I’ve seen) to write my blog posts. I’m happy I don’t have to anymore. I wrote on ChanceCube how much I think the service is great, then I recorded a really quick testimonial using the “record” feature. So, I thought I’d test out their sharing features. I'm all for giving people some sort of benefit though for being good beta testers. Say - a free pro account of the service or whatever. But I agree with you on not setting up a system prior but merely reward the outstanding testers Thanks for the feedback and thanks for signing up to the beta. Jeff Smith: Glad you brought that up. I'm quite curious about the service. As for rewards, I don't think it's necessarily something you have to plan out at this point. Rewards are a nice "Thank you" at the successful completion of a beta stage, but don't necessarily attract the best beta testers if they're offered up front. Email sent. Perhaps I will build something along those lines at some point. However, be sure to review the added benefits of Slugger - even if you don't want to use it going forward, you can keep it running for old posts with no drawbacks. You misunderstood me slightly, though: I want the "[slug][/slug]" removed entirely from the post after the slug itself is created. That way, should I ever disable Slugger, my posts won't suddenly begin showing the "slug" tags. Thanks, Colin, for posting on my blog.
